Grace, what issues do English supporters have with Southgate as manager? He has done a pretty decent job and raised expectations as well as changing the atmosphere around the national team.

There have been calls and rumours for one of Tuchel or Mauricio Pochettino but who’s to say either would not end up another Cappello or Eriksson? (Although I think the former would arguably be better suited to international level).

From the outside looking in it seems to be a case of “Be careful what you wish for”, I’d give Southgate the Euros campaign at least.

In the end Southgate trusted his approach and it could have worked. Pre match I'd have liked to have seen Philips in to man mark Griezeman, but I appreciate that would have left Walker 1v1.

With the system he did play I wonder how close he was to starting Mount? Given Henderson was asked to fill in ahead of Walker and do a fair bit of pressing, I wonder if Mount might have been able to do all that and add a bit more in the final third?

Overall, England were pretty good and kept France reasonably quiet. In the coming cycle, England will need to find replacement centre backs and centre forward. I'm not sure who is on the horizon and is screaming 'future England stalwart' in these positions? Tomori maybe, but up front I'm not sure.
